Mrs. Green Apple’s ‘Lilac’ MV illustrates Oblivion Battery OP’s upbeat message – song’s a banger as well

The new sports-themed MAPPA anime series Oblivion Battery (aka Boukyaku Battery) premiered on April 10th.
Today, the Oblivion Battery opening theme song — Japanese rock band Mrs. Green Apple’s ‘Lilac‘ — was officially released via the Universal Music/EMI record labels and, along with its release, the band has just premiered the track’s official music video.
A music video that is wonderfully appropriate for both the upbeat message of the song, and the anime’s story.

The ‘Lilac‘ music video takes place as band members are in high school as students, and as Mrs. Green Apple lead singer Motoki Ohmori (who recently suffered from sudden-onset deafness) appears working in various jobs — a janitor, a teacher, restaurant worker, road worker, a fireman or a car mechanic.
Meanwhile he is singing about accepting everything about your present and your past — the good, the bad, the painful – as all of those things make up who you become.
And, as you do that, you should also accept who you have become, and love yourself no matter what.
A message that resonates with the story of Oblivion Battery, as it follows a group of high school students who were talented baseball players in junior high, until they all quit for various reasons.
Now in high school, they decide to stop worrying about the things that happened in the past and concentrate on the future.
That future includes founding another baseball club, so they can go back to doing the thing they used to love.
Mrs. Green Apple’s ‘Lilac‘ music video does a nice job of communicating that positive sentiment, as the characters in it all seem to be enjoying their lives — whether as students or out in the work world — problems and challenges aside.
The song is also one of several anime theme songs the Japanese rock band has released over the last few years, including themes for Fire Force, Nana Maru San Batsu, I’m Invincible, Wonder Gravity: Pino and the Gravity Users, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V.

The upbeat rock song is now available for purchase on all the usual digital music platforms, as well as for streaming via platforms like Spotify and Deezer.
You can also hear it on the anime’s cute opening animation sequence that was released on the KADOKAWA Anime YouTube channel a couple of days ago.
The ongoing anime Oblivion Battery was animated by MAPPA, and is currently streaming.
