MBC Friday-Saturday drama Moon River, Episode 1 beats predecessor To the Moon‘s ratings
Kang Tae Oh, and Kim Se Jeong’s new drama Moon River premiered its first episode on MBC last night to solid ratings.
The Friday-Saturday drama grabbed 3.8 percent of the nationwide audience share, while earning a 3.7 percent viewership in Seoul.
That rating is already higher than its predecessor, To the Moon, earned for its first episode (2.8 percent nationwide/2.7 percent in Seoul), so definitely a promising start, right?
What matters now is how well the Korean historical romantic comedy does with Episode 2 and beyond.

Preliminary international ratings for Moon River after Episode 1
While it doesn’t really matter what the ratings are from international viewers after a first episode, as they change so quickly once the trolls dissipate, it is nice to see My Drama List being a little bit slower releasing the ratings than they used to be.
So much so, with no actual rating available on the site after Moon River, Episode 1 aired, we get to judge how the K-drama is doing from the comments and, let me just say, they are extremely positive so far.
They range from one person praising the setting up of the entire drama’s premise in the first episode (I agree, by the way):
I love how they used E01 to set the entire stage instead of dragging it to 4–6 episodes.
There are more stories to tell than to waste time establishing the story. No one cares how a food was made, or where the ingredients came from. It’s all about the taste, the experience and magic of combining these ingredients into a savoury and delectable food.
That’s how non-literature format storytelling should be.
to another who went into the first episode of Moon River with a little trepidation then happy with how it ultimately turned out:
I really enjoyed the first episode, i was worried about him having a death wife but it turned out to be a good thing. He has to love only one woman for all his life. Furthermore, the story seems to be entertaining and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
with most agreeing Moon River, Episode 1 did a very nice job pulling you in and making you care about its characters right from the get-go.
Of course, 10 people on IMDB are currently rating Moon River a too low 7.2 out of 10, but that’s par for the course for the stupidity of many people (trolls?) using that site.
Episode 3 of Moon River experiences a big ratings jump
As usual, IMDB can’t get the title of the Korean drama right either. Still insisting on calling it The Moon Flows Through the River, when that English title went by the wayside weeks ago.
Equally silly is Viki’s rating of 9.7 out of 10 from 111 viewers so far.
That’s too high, pretty much “per usual” with Viki, and another indication that the site either manipulates its ratings as it promotes the dramas it is streaming, or it doesn’t police its users particularly well.
Look out for Moon River, Episode 2 dropping later on tonight, both on MBC in South Korea and on Viki internationally.
We’ll be back here on Baozi Buns tomorrow to let you know how its rating turned out.
