The upcoming Asmik Ace/Miyu Productions/Studio Outrigger-produced animated film A NEW DAWN (aka Hanarokushou ga Akeru Hi ni) is unfortunately being delayed until 2026.
The delay announcement was released via the anime’s official website.
No reason was given for the delay, with the site simply commenting:
The release date for the film A NEW DAWN has been changed from the initially scheduled 2025 to 2026.
We sincerely apologize to all those who have been eagerly awaiting the release of this film.
Your continued support until its release would be greatly appreciated.
Then again, it is being produced in a Japanese-French collaboration, and those types of collabs are often notoriously difficult when it comes to getting all your ducks in a row.
The French generally also work far fewer hours than the Japanese, so there’s also that.
The new A NEW DAWN trailer
A new trailer for the film was released at the same time of the delay announcement, and it again proves this one is definitely one to keep an eye on, as it has been a long time since I have seen an art style that beautiful and that unique.
The trailer also features short snippets from the main voice actors, who are in their first anime roles. They are:
- Kotone Furukawa who voices Kaoru Shikimori
- Riku Hagiwara who plays Keitarou Obinata
Production details for A NEW DAWN
The animated film was created, written and is being directed by renowned Japanese artist (hence that stunning art style!) Yoshitoshi Shinomiya (director of Shibuya Vernacular and Adventuring Party: Hero of Forest).
Utsushita (Heavenly Delusion) is animating the characters.
As for the plot of A NEW DAWN, its website describes it like this:
“That firework captured a piece of the universe—”
In a lush green forest lies the Obinata Fireworks Factory, a workshop now facing eviction due to urban redevelopment.
Keitaro Tachiwa has barricaded himself there for four years, devoting himself to crafting fireworks—striving to complete Shuhari, a legendary firework said to be his vanished father’s unfinished masterpiece.
Meanwhile, Kaoru, his childhood friend now living in Tokyo, had left their hometown years ago after a certain incident. But with the eviction deadline looming the next day, she returns to the Obinata household.
Reunited, the two hatch an astonishing plan to uncover the secrets of the lost firework.
The key lies in a stunning blue pigment called Hanrokushō—What is Hanrokushō?
A green pigment once used in fireworks that burns into a vivid blue.
Due to its toxicity, it is rarely used today.
