The first episode of the new SBS comedy sports-themed drama The Winning Try premiered last night to excellent first ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea, The Winning Try, Episode 1 earned a very solid 4.1 percent of the nationwide viewership, while in Seoul it grabbed an equally good 3.9 percent.
Of course, with it being a rugby-themed drama, it is usually after the second episode when it is more obvious how the drama will continue to perform, as sports dramas often tend to be a case of “viewers like sports or they don’t”.
Let’s see how The Winning Try performs with Episode 2 tonight then, eh?
International viewers’ reaction to The Winning Try after Episode 1
Interestingly, My Drama List (MDL) has not yet released the ratings for the K-drama after Episode 1.
An excellent decision, if this is the new reality going forward, as there are too many trolls on that site that deliberately downrate a new drama after only having watched the first few minutes of Episode 1.
MDL’s listing for the drama, though, does show over 2,500 watching The Winning Try and, so far at least, out of every comment there is only one that’s slightly negative.
All the others are overwhelmingly positive, and proving those who watched The Winning Try, Episode 1 are loving the K-drama.
