New tvN drama The Queen Who Crowns premiered last night to very solid ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea, The Queen Who Crowns, Episode 1 earned 4.87 percent from its nationwide audience, while it grabbed an even higher 5.13 percent in Seoul.
Decent ratings for a new historical drama and, in my opinion, ones that are likely to only increase if the rest of the K-drama continues to be as superb as its first two episodes.
The Queen Who Crowns stars Cha Joo Young as Queen Won Gyeong, alongside Lee Hyun Wook (Song of the Bandits), Lee Yi Dam (Black Knight) and Lee Shi Ah (Korea-Khitan War).
It is directed by Kim Sang Ho (Money Game), and written by Money Game writer Lee Young Mi.
The K-drama tells the story of Won Gyeong, the wife of Prince Jeong An (played by Lee Hyun Wook), who is the first son of King Tae Jo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty.
But, after King Tae Jo decides to overlook his first son and make his second son his successor, the Queen and her husband plot together to ensure he becomes King instead.
As you might expect, however, once Prince Jeong An becomes King, things don’t work out quite as well as now-Queen Won Gyeong would like.
The first two episodes of The Queen Who Crowns are now streaming on Viki.
