The Matchmakers Ep 10 audience drops again – as romance between main leads doesn’t transpire

The Rowoon and Cho Yi Hyun-led Korean drama The Matchmakers, Episode 10 aired to another audience drop last night with ratings for the K-drama back down to very close to their lowest ever rating nationwide.
Meanwhile in Seoul, The Matchmakers, Episode 10 did drop back to its lowest ever rating — a rating it has now received three times (Episodes 2, 6 and now 10) throughout its so far 10 episode run.
According to Nielsen Korea, last night’s episode of The Matchmakers earned just 3.4 percent of the audience share nationwide, which is down from its previous episode’s 4.1 percent.
In Seoul, the drama also dropped back to its lowest ever rating of 3.4 percent for the now-third time, after its Episode 9 rating of 4.0 percent last Tuesday night.
The Matchmakers on Viki, My Drama List and IMDB
The drama continues to be rated high on Viki, however, where international viewers can stream the Korean drama and are currently rating The Matchmakers a 9.4 out of 10.
On My Drama List, however, it has dropped down to a 7.9 out of 10 and over on IMDB a very poor 7.4 percent.
Chances are it is the lack of romance between the main pair that is causing the drop as, let’s face it, most K-fans watch rom-coms for romance between the main leads and, if that doesn’t work out quite quickly, disappointment turns to annoyance to “watching something else”.
With the main leads currently choosing not to become a couple, or at least Jung Soon Deok (played by Cho Yi Hyun) choosing to “not forget her dead husband until the end of her life”, the chances of romance are falling and that is likely to turn even more viewers off before the drama ends.
Fingers crossed the plot direction will change before the K-drama ends, as it would be a shame to see the pair only remain friends.
The Matchmakers is currently airing on KBS2 every Monday and Tuesday at 21:45 (KST), with its next episode airing tonight.
