Lee Je Hoon stars in Chief Detective 1958 as Detective Park
South Korean broadcaster MBC has released the first stills from their upcoming new drama Chief Detective 1958 starring Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi, Choi Woo Sung, Yoon Hyun Soo and Seo Eun Soo.
The stills center on the drama’s main character – Detective Park Young Han (played by Lee Je Hoon) — as he arrives in Seoul with suitcase in hand, and later as he finds himself involved in crimes much more dangerous than what he is used to back in his small home town.
Not that that stops Park Young Han from diligently doing his job, or from getting together with several colleagues in an effort to thwart the corruption he sees around him.
Alongside Lee Je Hoon, Lee Dong Hwi plays the role of Kim Sang Soon, Choi Woo Sung is Jo Kyeong Hwan, and Yoon Hyun Soo plays Seo Ho Jeong — all of whom are part of the investigation team at Jongnam Police Station.
Chief Detective 1958 is the prequel to the long-running 1970s/80s drama series Chief Inspector
Interestingly, the upcoming K-drama is a prequel to the 1971 drama Chief Inspector, which starred Choi Bool Am in the role of Chief Inspector Park.
The new drama series tells the story of then-Detective Park Young Han long before he became the Chief Inspector.
The now 83-year-old Choi Bool Am will also make a guest appearance in the new drama, and recently appeared in P.R. photos for the new drama series with star Lee Je Hoon. (see below)
Don’t expect Chief Detective 1958 to run as long as the original series it is based on, however, as the upcoming K-drama is only 10 episodes in length.
That is far different than the original Chief Inspector, which consisted of 880 episodes — yep, an astonishing 880 episodes — with the drama airing from early March, 1971 to late October, 1989.
When will Chief Detective 1958 premiere?
The MBC drama is directed by Kim Sung Hoon (Confidential Assignment and Rampant), and was written by Kim Young Shin,
It also features the support cast of Jung Soo Bin, Yoo Dong Geun, Go Seo Hee, Kim Min Jae, Yoo Hae Jin and Choi Deok Moon.
Chief Detective 1958 will premiere on April 19th, and will then air on MBC every Friday and Saturday at 21:50 (KST).
