Missing Crown Prince premiere delayed due to script problems? MBN drama postponed until April

Michelle Topham February 23, 2024

With the upcoming MBN historical drama Missing Crown Prince due to premiere on March 9th, potential viewers will be disappointed to learn it has been delayed until April 13th.

According to Korean news media via an announcement from the Missing Crown Prince production team, they have felt the need to postpone the drama’s premiere due to what could be script problems.

Their statement went as follows:

We have decided to delay the premiere of Missing Crown Prince so that we can deliver a solid and perfect story. After a period of intense preparations, we will deliver a production of utmost quality alongside a well-crafted story.

Please wait for the premiere of Missing Crown Prince, which will now air on April 13 at 9:40 p.m. KST.

An announcement that is slightly odd considering, if there are the script problems their announcement seems to hint at (and, note, script problems are not confirmed), you would think they would have been caught earlier, and not three weeks before the K-drama is due to premiere.

Especially as, at this late stage, rewrites, re-filmed scenes and edits of already-filmed scenes may now need to be carried out.

Unless, of course, any script problems are not the fault of the writers, but of others on the production team changing what they want as the production progressed?

Fingers crossed then that the production team of Missing Crown Prince can turn what sounds like may currently be a less than ideal drama into a watchable and, hopefully, very enjoyable one.

Particularly as this is a K-drama many of us have been looking forward to.

The staff and cast of Missing Crown Prince

The director of Missing Crown Prince is Kim Jin Man (Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People).

The MBN drama is written by Kim Ji Soo (Bossam: Steal the Fate) and Park Chul (also co-writer of Bossam: Steal the Fate).

Of course, I am not laying blame on them for any script problems, especially as they did a stellar job with Bossam: Steal the Fate.

After all, problems can occur as much from a director or a executive in a production company changing their mind about where they want a drama to go, as they can from the way screenwriters deliver the story.

The production stars Suho, Hong Ye Ji, Myung Se Bin, Kim Joo Hun, and Kim Min Kyu, and will air every Saturday and Sunday on MBN beginning April 13th, 2024.

Hopefully, it ends up with decent ratings to match its decent cast.

No word yet on which international streaming service, if any, will be carrying the Korean drama.
