Koo Kyo Hwan starring in sci-fi film In Search of the King – Won Shin Yun-directed work also stars Yoo Jae Myung and Seo Hyun

Now this news out of Korea I find particularly exciting.
The news that South Korean actor Koo Kyo Hwan has just been named as the lead in the upcoming sci-film In Search of the King (working title).
Koo Kyo Hwan will play the role of Kim Do Jin, a public health center surgeon who finds a strange unidentified object near a town inside the demilitarized zone.
And why I am so thrilled?
If you have seen Koo Kyo Hwan’s performances in the movies Escape from Mogadishu, Peninsula or in the Netflix series D.P., you will know what a superb actor he is, and how his appearance on screen guarantees a good experience even if the movie turns out to be terrible.
In Search of the King is being directed by Won Shin Yun (Memoir of a Murderer).
Other actors already named to the cast include Yoo Jae Myung (Voice of Silence), who plays one of the town’s residents, and Girls’ Generation member Seo Hyun (Private Lives) who has accepted the role of the town nurse.
As for Koo Kyo Hwan, the actor is most recently known for his role as Han Ho Yul in D.P., as Jung Ki Hoon in the drama Monstrous, and for playing Tae Joon Ki in the action drama Escape from Mogadishu.
He has also has a supporting role in the upcoming Netflix film Kill Boksoon, which stars Crash Course in Romance‘s Jeon Do Yeon. That movie will premiere on the streaming platform on March 31st.
2023 is also looking set to be a busy year for the 40-year-old actor, as he is already confirmed to be starring in D.P. Season 2, as well as in another Netflix drama Parasyte: The Grey, and in a guest role in the upcoming drama Park Ha Kyung’s Journey.
The movie Escape also has him cast as one of the male leads.
Filming on In Search of the King has already begun, although there has been no announcement as to when the film will be released.
Finally, just to prove the phenomenal acting skills of Koo Kyo Hwan, here he is playing the role of Jane in the 2017 film of the same name, a transgender woman who takes care of a group of homeless kids.
