Just like any other massive fan of the Chinese donghua Heaven Officials’ Blessing, I am always ecstatic every time a new illustration is released for the Boys’ Love story.
So me, and a million other BL fans, were thrilled to see the donghua’s latest illustration featuring Xie Lian and Hua Cheng arrive via its official social media accounts yesterday, along with the Chinese New Year message:
Candlelight sways, joy overflows, embarking on a new journey together, with happiness in every year. As seasons turn, warmest New Year wishes. May the splendid lanterns shine brightly, bringing family reunions and joyful scenes~
Wishing everyone a prosperous Chinese New Year.

Along with that gorgeous Spring Festival visual, the official Heaven Officials’ Blessing X account also released a short video with an animated version of the illustration.
Sweet, eh?

The visual and the video follow on from last October’s equally beautiful illustration that was released in celebration of the 5th year anniversary of Heaven Official’s Blessing.
Any sign of Heaven Officials’ Blessing, Season 3 yet?
Nope. There has been no sign, no word, no hint, no nothing about Season 3 of the smash-hit donghua heading our way any time soon.
The last release we got was Season 2 of Heaven Officials’ Blessing, which ran from October 18th, 2023 to January 17th, 2024, and with we fans not-so-patiently waiting for Season 3 to release just as soon as it ended.
With the Chinese authorities’ current ban on gay-themed dramas/animated series, however, unfortunately we all may be waiting a while.
Something that is a real shame, considering how popular danmei donghua are both inside and outside China, and how much money they make for Chinese production studios/animation studios.
Heaven Officials’ Blessing‘s X account actively promotes the donghua — still
However, one thing to be thankful for is the donghua’s official X account, which has almost 200,000 followers, has continued to actively promote the animated series.
And that leads me to believe a Season 3 is in the works as soon as producer Bilibili, and whichever animation studio is animating it, gets permission to release it.
Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait decades, eh?
Meanwhile, Seasons 1 and 2 of Heaven Officials’ Blessing are still streaming via Crunchyroll.
And, if you haven’t read the superb eight-volume novel series (written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu) the popular donghua is based on, all eight volumes (in various versions) are published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
