The new South Korean drama Heartbeat (aka 가슴이 뛴다) premiered on KBS2 last night to decent ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea, Heartbeat, Episode 1 garnered 4.1 percent of the audience share, which put the drama in 17th place for the day.
In Seoul, the drama earned the same 4.1 percent of the audience, which placed it in 13th place in the city.
Those ratings are slightly lower than My Perfect Stranger, the drama previously airing in the same time slot earned for its first episode (4.5 percent/4.2 percent), but also still on par with a typical KBS2 drama premiere.
What is the Korean drama Heartbeat about?
The new K-drama Heartbeat (aka My Heart is Beating) stars Ok Taec Yeon, Won Ji An, Park Kang Hyun, and Yoon S Hee.
The drama tells the story of half-human, half-vampire Seon Woo Hyul (played by Ok Taec Yeon) who misses becoming completely human by one day.
Because of this, he ends up living in a guesthouse owned by a woman, Joo In Hae (Won Ji An), who is so out of touch with her feelings, she might as well be non-human.
Of course, as you might expect with a romantic comedy, the pair eventually begin to fall in love.
Interestingly too, while international viewers on My Drama List are apparently rating the drama a low 7.9 out of 10 after Heartbeat, Episode 1 aired, almost all of the comments about it are raving about the first episode, its main leads, the comedy (very funny) and the plot.
Let’s see then if the rating improves from international viewers as new episodes air.
Heartbeat is airing every Monday and Tuesday at 21:45 (KST) in South Korea, with international viewers able to watch the drama on Amazon Prime Video.
The K-drama’s next episode will air later on tonight.
