The new South Korean historical spy-thriller Harbin shows no signs of slowing down at the box office this week, as the Korean Film Council has announced the film has earned over 3 million admissions in just nine days.
That is one day faster than 2023’s smash-hit 12.12: The Day was able to achieve its 3 million admissions, and only three days since the film hit over 2 million admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council, total admissions for Harbin since it opened on December 24th now officially stand at 3,094,655.
That also means the South Korean’s total gross at the box office is currently $20,065,155. Up over $3 million in just the last few days.
Harbin is directed by Woo Min Ho (The Man Standing Next), and stars Hyun Bin, Park Jeong Min, Jeon Yeo Been, Jo Woo Jin and Lee Dong Wook.
Cinematography is by Hong Kyeong Pyo, it was written by Kim Kyoung Chan and Woo Min Ho, and is produced by Kim Won Kuk.
The Harbin plot goes something like this:
Korea in 1909 is about to be absorbed into the Japanese empire.
Ahn Jung Geun (Hyun Bin) is a principled man who leads a clandestine group that plots to assassinate Ito, the main architect behind the invasion, at Harbin Railway Station.
But when a mission to procure explosives goes awry, Ahn is led to believe that one of their own is an informant for the Japanese. Tensions turn deadly as the threat of a traitor looms all the while the seemingly unstoppable enemy forces hunt them down.
There is still no word as to when or where Harbin will be released outside South Korea.
