Dare to Love Me Ep 1 premieres to lowest rating for a KBS2 drama in that time slot this year but…

The new KBS2 rom-com drama Dare to Love Me, Episode 1 premiered last night to a rating of 2.3 percent nationwide.
That rating was the lowest audience share for a KBS2 drama this year, with Love Song for Illusion premiering in the same time slot earlier in the year with a 4.3 percent rating, and the just-ended Nothing Uncovered with a 2.8 percent viewership.
However, as Love Song for Illusion‘s rating collapsed soon after, while Nothing Uncovered‘s increased, like with every drama, the ratings for its first episode is pretty much inconsequential.
Especially as, with 15 more episodes to air, anything can happen.
International ratings for Dare to Love Me, Episode 1
Again, the ratings for the first episode mean very little, but Dare to Love Me is currently showing a strong 8.1 out of 10 on My Drama List after its first episode last night
Comments, however, are split between “the female lead’s character is annoying” to “this is hilarious, and really hit the spot”, so we will have to wait a few episodes to see if the audience dissolves or grows.
Personally, while this type of over-the-top humor isn’t always my steal, I haven’t laughed at a Korean comedy as much as I laughed at this in ages.
Then again, Dare to Love Me, Episode 1 grabbed me 1 minute and 50 seconds in, when the waitress said “Miss, please take the aggressive confession somewhere else”, and I continued to laugh throughout the rest of it.
That’s why, if I had to guess, my money is on this becoming a sleeper hit.
Dare to Love Me stars Kim Myung Soo and Lee Yoo Young, and airs on KBS2 every Monday and Tuesday at 22:10 (KST), with Netflix streaming it internationally.
Let’s see what the rating is like for its second episode tonight then, eh?
