Channel A’s The Witch, Episode 4 earns substantial viewership increase as ratings head back up

raphaela28 Michelle Topham February 24, 2025

On February 23rd, 2025, Channel A’s captivating new drama The Witch, Episode 4 delivered its strongest performance yet, as the Korean drama’s latest episode achieved a significant ratings boost.

The mystery romance series, starring GOT7’s Park Jin Young (aka Jinyoung) and rising actress Roh Jeong Eui, scored an average nationwide rating of 2.94%, according to Nielsen Korea—an excellent 1.2% increase from the previous episode’s all-time low of 1.7%.

In the metropolitan Seoul area, the numbers were even more striking, with The Witch, Episode 4 climbing to 3.1%, and with the episode peaking at an impressive 3.6% during its most gripping moments.

This surge could mark a turning point for The Witch (fingers crossed), which premiered on February 15, 2025, to a record-breaking 2.4% nationwide rating—the highest debut for any drama in Channel A’s history — but then saw a drop to 1.7% for its third episode.

The latest episode aired on a competitive Sunday night, going head-to-head with the series finale of When the Stars Gossip.

Yet, The Witch managed to stand out, notching the highest Seoul ratings the series has seen so far.

Posts on social media like X from viewers highlighted the excitement, with many pointing to the peak rating of 3.6% as evidence of the show’s growing momentum.

This climb also propelled The Witch to impressive rankings on streaming platforms, reportedly placing it second on Netflix Korea and third on TVING as of February 23rd, according to fan updates.

What is driving The Witch‘s new success?

As its ratings rose, Episode 4 seems to have struck a chord with its deepening exploration of Mi Jeong and Dong Jin’s complex relationship.

The slow-burn narrative, while criticized by some for its pacing, appears to be paying off as the characters’ emotional stakes rise.

Roh Jeong Eui’s portrayal of Mi Jeong’s quiet despair and Jinyoung’s earnest determination as Dong Jin have also earned praise for breathing life into Kang Full’s haunting story.

The episode’s ability to balance mystery with tender moments likely also contributed to the ratings jump, offering viewers a satisfying mix of both tension and heart.

The drama’s broader appeal may also lie in its roots as a webtoon adaptation—a trend that has been dominating the K-drama landscape for quite a while now.

Either way, last night’s ratings rise definitely seem to signal that word of mouth and growing curiosity are drawing more viewers into the Korean drama’s somewhat eerie world.

Will Dong Jin break Mi Jeong’s curse? Can the series sustain its upward trajectory?

For now, fans are left eagerly awaiting the next chapter of this spellbinding tale, and if Episode 4 is any indication, The Witch might just cast an even wider net in the weeks to come.

What is the plot of The Witch?

Adapted from Kang Full’s webtoon Manyeo (The Witch), the series follows the emotional journey of Park Mi Jeong (Roh Jeong Eui), a woman labeled a “witch” due to the tragic fates that befall the men who love her, and Lee Dong Jin (Jinyoung), a man who knew her when she was still a teenager, and who now seeks to unravel the mystery behind her curse.

This blend of supernatural intrigue, romance, and stellar performances from the main cast has steadily drawn viewers in, and Episode 4’s uptick suggests the drama could finally be properly hitting its stride.

Meanwhile, with six episodes remaining in its 10-episode run, the series is now poised to build on this momentum as it airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:15 PM KST on Channel A, with international viewers tuning in via Viki.

Watch the K-drama’s first four episodes now via Viki where, by the way, it is currently earning a very high 9.4 out of 10 rating from the almost 1,000 people that have rated it so far.
