MBC scheduling of A Good Day to Be a Dog damaged its chances
I have felt sorry for the cast and crew of the MBC drama A Good Day to Be a Dog ever since the excellent K-drama premiered on October 11th.
After all, they got screwed every which way possible by the scheduling folks at MBC when it came to destroying their chances of having a hit drama.
First the drama was scheduled to air only once a week, which infuriates most K-drama fans who don’t want to wait a week between episodes, and with the expected result that some dropped it.
Then several episodes of the already only-once-a-week drama were postponed due to various events in October and November.
Those postponements now mean that a 14-episode drama that premiered way back on October 11th still won’t end until January 10th, 2024.
All of this then is me leading up to saying, no, it is no surprise A Good Day to Be a Dog, Episode 13 aired last night to its lowest ever rating of 1.5 percent.
That rating is a drop from the Korean drama’s previous episode’s rating of 1.8 percent, and a substantial fall from its first two episodes ratings of 2.2 percent and 2.8 percent. (Episodes 1 and 2, by the way, aired on the same night).
As the ratings on several websites from those who are still watching the drama are still solid, the ratings drop then likely has nothing to do with the drama itself or the performances of its actors, but instead is primarily due to its messy scheduling.
Scheduling that has caused people who first began watching the drama — both in South Korea and internationally — either to forget it exists, or just become too annoyed with the never-ending waiting for a new episode to drop.
All of which is a shame for the A Good Day to Be a Dog cast and crew, as what has actually been a very good fantasy rom-com ended up never getting the attention it deserved.
When will the final episode of A Good Day to Be a Dog air?
A Good Day to Be a Dog stars Park Gyu Young, Cha Eun Woo, and Lee Hyun Woo.
Its final episode will air next week, (yep, we still have another week’s wait), on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024.
Meanwhile, if you want to give the deserving drama some much needed love, you can watch (or rewatch) it via Viki where, by the way, those currently watching it are giving it a huge and well-deserved rating of 9.5 out of 10.
And btw, nothing against the folks at MBC as they usually do a much better job supporting their dramas than they have done with this.
It is just a shame they let the ball drop on this one.
