A Head Coach’s Turnover EP 1 premieres to low-ish ratings but it’s understandable why

If you want a short Korean drama to watch, you don’t get one much shorter than the currently airing A Head Coach’s Turnover. A drama that premiered last night, and will end its run tonight.
Yep, A Head Coach’s Turnover is just two episodes, with its first episode airing on MBC last night.
That episode, by the way, earned 1.6 percent of the nationwide viewership last night.
A low-ish number, but one to be expected considering it ran in the same time slot as the massively popular historical supernatural K-drama The Haunted Palace on SBS.
We will see how Episode 2 wraps up the Korean drama’s audience numbers when it airs tonight then.
What is A Head Coach’s Turnover?
The MBC drama special (맹감독의 악플러 in Korean) follows the story of Maeng Gong (played by Park Sung Woong), a professional basketball coach on the verge of being fired due to poor performance, who teams up with his online troll, Hwa Jin (Park Soo Oh), to save his team’s season.
Park Sung Woong takes on the role of Maeng Gong, the coach of the professional basketball team Big Pandas, which is at risk of missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
Although he was once a star player, he has now become the epitome of a young, stubborn “kkondae” (Korean slang for an arrogant older person) in the league, constantly berating his players from the bench.
The mini K-drama is based on a script that won the Grand Prize at the 2024 MBC Drama Script Contest.
A Head Coach’s Turnover stars the aforementioned Park Sung Woong (Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard) and Park Soo Oh (The Queen Who Crowns) alongside a supporting cast that includes Oh Joo Seok (A Shoulder to Cry On), Kim Taek (The King’s Affection), Oh Hyun Joong (My Happy Ending) and Kang Hee Goo (Weak Hero Class 2).
It ends its quick run tonight so, if you are looking for a K-drama you don’t have to invest weeks in, this one may just hit that spot.
