Youn Yuh Jung joins Beef, Season 2 cast – will play a Korean billionaire in hit Netflix series

As Netflix continues to go all in on all-things Korean (Yay!), it has just been announced the Oscar-winning Korean actress Youn Yuh Jung will be joining the cast of Season 2 of the Netflix comedy drama Beef.
You Yuh Jung, of course, is known internationally for her performance in the 2020 film Minari, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in the hit Apple TV+ drama Pachinko, and many other incredible performances over a career spanning more than 50 years.
According to various American entertainment news outlets, in Beef, Season 2 the 77-year-old Korean actress will play a Korean billionaire who owns a country club where the world of the elite is disrupted after a fight between a married couple.
A fight with a very unusual aftermath.
The first season of Beef, which streamed on Netflix beginning on April 6th, 2023, also starred Korean-American actor Steven Yeun who also appeared in Minari, and was created by Korean-American director Lee Sung Jin especially for Netflix.
So, yes, this is a Korean production, but it will also be her first American drama.
The upcoming second season of Beef will star Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny and the aforementioned Youn Yuh Jung.
Youn Yuh Jung’s amazing career
The South Korean actress began her career in the late 1960s.
It wasn’t long before her talent was recognized in South Korea, and she quickly went on to star in K-dramas like A World of Peace, Jang Hee Bin, and Daewongun, and in films Woman of Fire, Insect Woman and Woman Requiem. (Yep, she apparently liked those roles that showcased strong women!)
In recent years, Youn Yuh Jung has starred in dramas My Husband Got a Family, Wonderful Days, Dear My Friends, Never Twice and the first two seasons of Pachinko, and in the hit films Beasts Clawing at Straws, and in this year’s Dog Days.
It wasn’t until her Minari performance, however, that she came to international attention when she became the first South Korean actress to ever win an Oscar.
As for her upcoming appearance in Beef, it will be her first in an exclusive Netflix production. But, hopefully, not her last.

There is no word from Netflix yet when Beef, Season 2 will premiere on the platform, but all 10 episodes of the first season of Beef are now streaming.
All I know is, like every other role she has acted in, she will be superb in it.
